What Is Google Adsense?
If you are part of the Internet marketing community, you should be familiar with Google Adsense. It could just be the path to a lot of profits so it makes sense to know as much as you can about it. Let’s take you through the basics.
Adsense refers to the small text ads that Google places on web sites once the owner of the website consents to it. These ads basically sell some product or service and are paid for by the advertiser. These ads are called Google Adwords and they are also part of the Google offering. Both Adsense and Adwords go together. When a person who is surfing the Internet goes to a web site and clicks on one of these ads, the person who is the advertiser and who has created the ad will pay Google a certain price which is determined between them and Google at the beginning of the contract. That’s why it is called ‘pay per click’.
The great thing about Adsense is that the web site host or owner gets a part of this money because after all, it was through this site that the person clicked on the ad. No one quite knows how much of the amount is given to the web site owner – that’s a secret – but let us just assume that it is half the amount paid to Google. So if the advertiser pays .40 for every click on his Adwords ads, the web site owner will get .20. The rest of course, goes to Google. Adsense therefore is a huge money making machinery that functions as a joint venture between Google and web site owners.
Adsense is relevant or as relevant as it can possibly be. This means that only ads that are related to your site will be featured. Say you have a website for designer wear, what will be featured will be ads for designer dresses, bags, shoes, etc. Unless it is relevant or closely linked, people who visit the site will not click on the ads. If they visit the web site, they might click on ads that are selling something similar.
What determines how much each click is worth? Well, it all depends how sought after a keyword is. Adword advertisers bid to get the best keywords. If a keyword is very lucrative, the ‘per click’ amount is much more. So you can have per click rates going from just a few cents to maybe $50 a click!
When you look at it like that, Adsense has a lot of potential to generate money. There are sites that are put up on the Internet with very specific content just so that it can bring in the high paying ads. There are Internet marketers whose earnings can be well over $10,000 a month!
